When you think of sightseeing in Osaka, what comes to mind?
For the southern area Namba, Shinsaibashi, Sennichimae, and for up north there’s Umeda, right?
Today we’d like to introduce an area in Osaka that may not be as well known for sightseeing! Temma and Temmabashi are areas that’re right in the middle–it’s easy to go anywhere from here, making it a great spot to visit during your stay in Osaka.
However, even though the names are similar, they’re in different areas with different train lines and train stops. In fact, there’s a river dividing the two areas and it can take about 30 minutes to walk between the two!
For Temma you have JR lines and is closer to Umeda.
While at Temmabashi there are the Keihan and Osaka Metro Tanimachi lines. Ookini Hotels Osaka Castle Apartment is a stone throw away from Temmabashi Station, making it a great starting point.
Both Temma and Temmabashi have great sightseeing activities and spots, so check it out below~
Right when you leave Temmabashi Station, you can see it: Osaka Castle! It’s easy to see that for Temmabashi Osaka Castle is a must for sightseeing. In our previous blogs, we’ve mentioned Osaka Castle several times–for different events or festivals. All year round there’s something happening at Osaka Castle and it doesn’t matter what the season is, it’ll be a beautiful place to visit.
Many people think that the castle was built by Toyotomi Hideyoshi. While it’s true that Toyotomi first built a castle at the current location and used it as a base… did you know it was actually rebuilt by the Tokugawa shogunate government after the Toyotomi era finished? Inside the castle, you can see dioramas and other displays showing the rich history of the castle. Moreover, you can enjoy a beautiful view of Osaka from the top!
While Kids Plaza is a little bit farther from Temmabashi, it’s a great stop for families to enjoy. There are exhibitions, workshops, and even volunteer interpreters!
Kids Plaza is all about learning through experience–so you and your family can have a fun & educational museum experience with tons of hands-on experience! There are so many different sections from nature, to science, to even a mock TV studio–and that’s just the 5th floor!!–you can spend the whole day enjoying yourself.
From Tenjinbashi Bridge all the way to Tenjinbashi 6-Chome, this shopping street stretches 2.6 kilometers! That’s the longest in Japan. In fact, walking from one end to the other can take up to 40 minutes!! Prepare for a full day of shopping when you come to visit this shopping street.
