Winter is upon us and next thing you know it’ll be Christmas and New Years!
For those of you traveling over the holidays, it’s a good time to take a look at how other countries compare to your own when celebrating. How do you spend Christmas in your own country? Are there any traditions you hold dear?Last year in our Christmas blog we compared the difference between spending Christmas in Japan and overseas. You can check it out here~

You can find many places throughout Osaka that offer illumination: Midosuji Street, Osaka Castle, Nakanoshima, Universal Studio Japan to name a few. There are plenty of other Christmas activities you can take part in, that will make for a perfect Christmas date!
How about it? Keep reading if you’re ready for some ideas for a Christmas date in Umeda!Even if you plan to spend the day with your family, you may want to keep these activities in mind!
//// Christmas Date in Umeda ////
1. Christmas Dessert Buffet
What do you know normally eat on Christmas? Turkey? Ham? What about sweets…? Do you usually have cookies or a cake?
In Japan, the standard is Christmas cake! Your own country may have its own versions of Christmas cake such as fruitcake, Yule Log cake, and more, but Japan has its own version of Christmas cake. Generally, a yellow sponge cake is used with whipped cream frosting or buttery cream, and fillings such as strawberries. To have a good quality Christmas cake you normally have to order ahead of time… which can be difficult if you are traveling!
So, where can you and your partner indulge in this sweet treat on Christmas? There are many Christmas dessert buffets offered around Osaka–where you can try different cakes and pastries fitting the season.
How does sharing a sweet moment with your loved one sound?
At Folk Kitchen in the Hilton Hotel in Umeda, the current dessert buffet theme is “Dessert Buffet Alice’s White Christmas.” A whimsical buffet with many options for you to try: all cakes and desserts are white and red, giving a snowy Christmas feeling and you can expect decorations such as wreaths and trees to get in the spirit!
Each sweet has a Christmas and Alice theme such as “The Rabbit’s Christmas Wreath Cake,” a wreath shaped cheesecake with holy made out of white chocolate. Yum!
This buffet is only open until Christmas Eve, but it’s not too early to celebrate Christmas together.

2. Umeda Ice Rink Tsurun Tsurun
After eating something sweet, surely you will want to get up and move around, right? As far as wintery activities go there’s not much to do in a city: Skiing, snowboarding, and sledding are all impossible.
There’s one activity left that may just be perfect for a date: ice skating. You can hold hands as you ice skate together. Whether it’s your first time around the rink or you’re a pro, ice skating can be fun for anyone! Outside it may be cold but as you skate around you’ll feel nice and warm–and together it can be quite romantic!
If you think that sounds good, don’t worry you don’t have to go far! This year too an ice skating rink is being specially set up at Grand Front Osaka in the Umekita Hiroba. Whether you’re a seasoned pro or skating for the first time, you can have fun skating together. Set the mood by holding hands while skating together~
